ok, now it's official.

Toonami: 1997-2008
Cartoon Network: 1992-2009

remember how i said CN should might as well change their name? 5 days ago? well, they are. Cartoon Network will be changing their name to Cartoon Network Real this summer. i assume the "real" has something to do with the live action garbage they will start airing prime-time wednesdays and sundays in a few months.

you can expect the flood of live action on CN to grow as i'm sure ratings won't be as high as they want and they'll start to dilute their schedule with all of it.

and what would a network name change be without a logo redesign? here are some potential designs. i'm warning you, they're not pretty.

one zoomed in (if you dare): [link]

so who's to blame for the death of the "all cartoons all the time" network?

Stuart Snyder, President-chief Operating Officer of Turner Animation: embraced the idea of adding a slew of live-action shows, and began the "initial phase to reinvent the network and reinvent the brand."
Jim Sempler, ex-Executive VP and General Manager of Turner Animation: removed almost all non-original content (Looney Tunes, 90% of Toonami, etc) from the schedule last year and created a marketing nightmare for the network.
Nearly every Turner/CN exec: for asking the question, "“Who says a cartoon has to be animated?” ( [link] )

what can you do about it?

:bulletblack: support "real" cartoons! while CN still has yet to release DVD sets of most of their cartoons (dexter's lab and megas xlr for example), shows like the powerpuff girls and ed, edd 'n eddy have dvd sets. if you don't have them already, get 'em ! a lot of these cartoons are also available on iTunes.
:bulletblack: leave Cartoon Network your thoughts about the direction the network is going in.
:bulletblack: keep on animating and drawing, and hope that someday CN (soon to be CNR i guess) will realize it's been going the wrong direction for a long time.

mind all this, CN does have 7 new cartoon series planned, but this news is overcast by everything else - especially considering one of them is yet another scooby-doo spinoff. :unimpressed:

One thing I can't believe is that they released a "George of the Jungle" season DVD before they released a Chowder or Flapjack one. o.o;

And last week I was REALLY hoping this was some elaborate april fool's, but I suppose we just have to try and convince the network not to commit such a crime.
:iconwesker991:
Most live action stuff they air is poop. I still find myself watching some new cartoons all the time which is kinda neat.

As debilitating as the news is...

I'm wondering why they're so for these Scooby-Doo spinoffs... there's more n more with each passing year it seems...

Alas it's disheartening to see that they're giving up what made Cartoon Network noteworthy in the first place-
