this has got to be the worst art site fad in history.

a bunch of popular artists got together and circlejerked until they thought of the very stereotypical and overdone idea of making pixel ID's with video game stats.

since they did it, it's super cool now! so everyone is following in their footsteps, putting together tutorials and tracing over their favorite sprites and dolls so they can get a piece of the action.


lame

things i keep hearing:

1. you say it's lame, but YOU made one!. I DID!?!?! Are you serious, where? ok but seriously, tell me something I don't know. I wanted to prove a point about the fad, so I have to take part in it some how to make it. Obviously I toyed with the "theme" of it, changing things like the stats and the supposed required size of the template. I find the best way of turning people's heads is diving right in but trying not to get wet. This is not a "Pixel ID", I doubt the creators would be happy about this one, because it mocks the entire concept.

2. what if people just want to do it for fun and try something new? If you're NEW to pixel art, you do not just go right ahead and start drawing full-fledged character models. That's like saying if you want to start drawing you should just dive right in to life drawing and full body renderings with clothes and advanced shading techniques. Where do you go first? YOU START SMALL. Don't follow some stupid fad and jump the gun with a new medium. That's not how it works.
